Jersey-grown Peach Pies Take Prizes

Glassboro, NJ (August 24, 2017) New Jersey’s amateur baker “Perfect Peach Pies" were declared “Fabulous and tough to judge,” according to culinary experts who judged submissions at farmers’ markets throughout the state. Finalists go on to compete for two grand prizes of $300 each in southern and northern New Jersey. Now in their fifth year, the contests are sponsored by the New Jersey Peach Promotion Council, to raise public awareness of the goodness and nutritional value of locally grown peaches. This year, New Jersey ranks second in the country in peach production!

South Jersey Grand Prize Winner!

The New Jersey Peach Promotion Council wound up a bountiful season with the final judging for South Jersey’s champion baker of “Perfect Peach Pies,” at Tortilla Press, Collingswood. Cathianne Metzgier’s pie, the winning submission at Downtown Wildwood Farmers' Market, took the grand prize of $300 from the NJPPC. The North Jersey grand prize of $300 was awarded to Sarah Deller, for her own wonderful pie at Edison Farmers' Market, judged at the Frog and Peach, New Brunswick.

New Jersey amateur peach pie baking contests are in their fifth season, and competitions are getting fierce! Winners of local competitions go on to compete for two grand prizes of $300 each – one in southern New Jersey, one in northern New Jersey. Contests and peach events are sponsored by the New Jersey Peach Promotion Council.
