Glassboro, NJ (July 5, 2016) – Finally! After the vagaries of spring weather, New Jersey’s own locally grown peaches are hitting the markets, and the New Jersey Peach Promotion Council is celebrating this healthy, delicious fruit throughout the state at farmers' markets, farms, supermarkets, and restaurants. This year supermarket nutritionists and dietitians will be doing demos and tastings of peaches in a variety of healthy dishes, from breakfast to dessert and in between.

Kicking off the season of peaches is Bernardsville Farmers' Market’s Peach Party, July 16th.  Peach Parties are customized by the various markets.  Each market designs its own peach-themed event (some are very creative), that can include peach tastings, raffles for peach baskets, children’s games, music, specially made peach dishes, Peach Queen appearances and more.  Some farms offer trips through the orchards to pick your own peaches.

The New Jersey Peach Promotion Council is again sponsoring the “Perfect Peach Pie" amateur baking contests, with more entries than ever. Pies and cobblers at farmers markets throughout the state are judged by top-notch local pie connoisseurs and yield some creative and tasty recipes that the New Jersey Peach Promotion Council posts right here on our website>  Winners at each location go on to compete for two grand prizes – one in south Jersey, one in north Jersey –  $300 in cash for each winner.  The Peach Party Calendar below describes peach events and venues.
