South Jersey Grand Prize Winner!
Glassboro, NJ (September 23, 2017) – The New Jersey Peach Promotion Council wound up a bountiful season with the final judging for South Jersey’s champion baker of “Perfect Peach Pies,” at Tortilla Press, Collingswood. Cathianne Metzgier’s pie, the winning submission at Downtown Wildwood Farmers' Market, took the grand prize of $300 from the PPC.
The North Jersey grand prize of $300 was awarded to Sarah Deller, for her own wonderful pie at Edison Farmers' Market, judged at the Frog and Peach, New Brunswick.
The 2017 peach pie contests marked their fifth season, with contests held at farmers' markets throughout New Jersey. They are sponsored by the New Jersey Peach Promotion Council, to raise public awareness of the goodness and nutritional value of locally grown peaches.
“We’re pleased that farmers’ markets have been holding special peach events, like the peach pie contests,” says PPC chair, Santo John Maccherone. “They’ve been conveying the message that our peaches are indeed ‘the best’ you can get during the season, June to September. Our peaches are in demand with consumers throughout the northeast.”
